Island Journal

March/April 2002

Sunday
Surprise breakfast invitation to Cabbage Key. Being on the water with M&E is always our favorite day.

Tuesday
Great tennis match, then down to Olde Naples with NW for gallery- and bistro-hopping.

Wednesday
Up early and the number of mullet jumping in the bayou was phenomenal. Wonder why they’re more stirred up on certain days?

Friday
Created a mango coulis for dinner from last August’s crop, thanks to my dehydrator.

Saturday
Got an e-mail from G&R in Italy. They are dreaming of Captiva sunsets.

Sunday
D arrived from Maine for a month; took her to the pool bar to celebrate.

Wednesday
Nighttime tennis with S, then home to Nemo, who was angling for some tuna. Who could deny him?

Thursday
Met M on the beach for an early morning walk and some shelling. Wow! Why do I wait so long between my beach walks? It’s beautiful out there!

Friday
Navigating Periwinkle is an art form this month. No left-hand turns without open windows, helpless looks, winks and/or waves. Thank goodness people are nice here.

Saturday
Ran into H&R at the Lazy Flamingo. Played ring toss for who had to buy beers. (We did.)

Sunday
A great day! Read the Sunday paper with Nemo on the back porch, then went to a movie with S. He surprised me afterward with a sunset flight over the islands.

Monday
D’s month is going quickly.…So many friends, so little time! A nice problem to have.

Tuesday
Small dinner party tonight with fresh fish courtesy of MM. Queenie’s ice cream for dessert, because life is short.

Thursday
I was wishing we’d have this weather all year long, when S reminded me we’d then be crowded all year long. Hmm.

Friday
Was remembering today when J was little and the Easter bunny came in by boat at South Seas. Boy, were his eyes big!

Saturday
Bridal party at ’Tweenies hit the jackpot with tonight’s sunset.

Sunday
Cardinals woke us early, a neighborhood hawk watched me do yardwork, then owls were out at dark. A birding trifecta.

Monday
S saw rabbits on Captiva again today. Blind Pass’s closing brought some fuzzy new immigrants.

Tuesday
Shuttle launch scheduled for tonight. Skies are clear; we’re heading to Jensen’s to watch.

Wednesday
Launch was four-star. Even saw the booster rockets go off.

Sunday
Stargazing was excellent tonight. Took a bottle of wine and binocs onto the front porch for some serious dark-skies lounging.
