Island Journal

November/December 2000

Saturday
I played captain today; took a boat to the narrows. We swam in the gulf till we shriveled.
Sunday
Brunch with M&J, then a matinee in town. To Lazy for dinner and a sunset beach walk. I love Sundays!
Tuesday
I miss the summer fireflies.
Thursday
Got new birdseed bells up and scrubbed the birdbath. Feathered Friends Day.
Friday
Fun evening at Pirate Playhouse production.
Tuesday
E&M over for dinner. Made dessert using last summer’s mangoes.
Monday
S surprised me Saturday morning. We got up early and drove to Mount Dora for a long weekend. Nice!
Tuesday
Real world beckons, but I’m not answering. Played hooky at the tennis courts instead.
Saturday
Boated to Boca Grande; took our bikes with us. Rode the whole island, then cruised home.
Sunday
S treated me to a golf cart ride on Captiva. Almost a full moon. Saw lots of friends out and about—Andy Rosse Lane was the place to be!
Wednesday
K shared his day’s catch. We were happy; Nemo was ecstatic.
Thursday
Met S at Page Field for a sunset flight over the islands. Wow.
Friday
Dreamed the Island Store turned into a 7-11. That’s not a dream—it’s a nightmare!
Saturday
Tennis lesson with JW, then picked up a doubles match with resort guests.
Monday
How do lizards leap down three feet when they’re only five inches long?
Tuesday
About 10 cars had to slow down on San-Cap for a raccoon and three babies. All made it safely across.
Thursday
Blind Pass, dusk, a concert of spoonbills.
Friday
It’s funny watching the newly arrived seasonal residents running the stop sign on Captiva…same way we did when it went up. Oops.
Monday
Dreamed I was running a water taxi to Cuba. Good grief!
Wednesday
No moon and stars galore. We took a bottle of wine down to the dock and stargazed for hours. Hooray for dark skies!
Thursday
Think I saw Goldie Hawn walking down the road. Is she here?
Friday
Got new strings, new grip, and new tennis balls. Now if I could only get a new backhand volley!
Saturday
International Day at ’Tweenies Pool Bar: two Irish gals and a guy from Peru.
Tuesday
Met S on the causeway for a dolphin watch via kayak. Quiet wonders.
