Island Journal

November/December 1999 Issue

Sunday
Tennis lesson with JW. Learned a lot, then rewarded myself with a cold beer at the Tweenies pool bar.

Tuesday
Nemo stayed on the back porch all day long watching the mullet jump. Cooler temps are good for kitties.

Wednesday
Three Coins in a Fountain on TV tonight. Wonder what would happen if we offered gondola trips around the islands?

Saturday
Cardinals woke us up early, chirping and hanging out on the birdseed bells.

Sunday
Tennis early with NW, then we got a boat from Jensen’s and went up to Cabbage. Life is sweet!

Wednesday
Had a sexy dinner on the back porch, just the two of us—and Nemo. One of the dolphins swam past during dessert.

Thursday
Spent some time in the Bailey Tract this morning. Saw a couple of bunnies near the spartina, which made me think about Watership Down.

Saturday
Who is that cyclist with the troll attached to his bike helmet?

Tuesday
Going to The Pirate Playhouse tomorrow night with MB and AR. Will be a full moon; may have to go to the causeway afterward.

Wednesday
Play was awesome. Moon beckoned us to the causeway for night sky viewing. Moonlight on the water was breathtaking.

Friday
Cards at J&M’s house tonight. I sure don’t have much discipline for serious projects.

Saturday
Worked up a little self-discipline, used it practicing overhead smashes with a ball machine. I lose yet another Serious Project Award.

Sunday
NYTimes has a great article on Italy. Wish I could find a nice Italian couple for house swapping.

Tuesday
Bought my once-a-year key lime pie.

Friday
Went flying over the islands with S, and it took my breath away…again.

Tuesday
Three fireflies in our yard tonight. That’s only their third visit in four years.

Friday
Met TP on the causeway for a picnic and a little fishing. Nemo would have gone crazy if he saw all the baitfish I netted.

Wednesday
Met A at Tarpon Bay for a paddle through the refuge. We got pretty smooth with a little practice.

Thursday
Up early and spied a yellow-throated warbler checking out the birdseed bells. That’s a first.

Saturday
Rowed Chickcharnie over to Kelsie’s. We explored all the canals off the bayou. Moose came with us and never barked once.
