J.N.
"Ding" Darling

November/December
2000 Issue
SCCF,
Darling Foundation continue Conservationists Work
The original
articles of incorporation for the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation
and the J.N. Ding Darling Foundation both state the organizations
will be guided by the principles and precepts of Jay Norwood Darling.
The not-for-profit J.N. Ding Darling Foundation is presided
over by Darlings grandson, Kip Koss. Kip works tirelessly
to make Darling known, says SCCFs Anders, and to make
his work more useful to people, to inspire them. The Darling Foundation
provides scholarships to Iowa students who exhibit academic prowess, particularly
in animal ecology. Scholarship winners also must have a talent for communication,
because the foundation recognizes that its not enough to have the
knowledge: it must be shared effectively, as Darling did through his cartooning.
The Darling Foundation has recently produced a compilation on CD-ROM,
entitled Editorial Cartoons of J.N. Ding Darling, of thousands
of Darlings cartoons. Koss and Anders hope to distribute the CD
at no charge to educators and are looking for an angel to
help finance the effort. All donations are appreciated. The CD is available
for sale online through Koss or Anders, or at the J.N. Ding
Darling National Wildlife Refuge. (see web addresses below.)
