The Maine Attraction By Libby Boren McMillan
Islands come in all shapes and sizes—from the flat and serene Sanibel to the mountainous and rugged Mount Desert Island along the coast of Maine. Home to Acadia National Park, this beautiful coastal area of Maine is a summer treat.
Struggle to Survive By Jennifer Workman
Under cover of darkness, the threatened loggerhead turtle pulls herself up the beach, where she digs a nest, lays her eggs, then turns around and heads back to sea. With a lot of luck and some help from volunteer turtle watchers, the loggerhead nests will produce thousands of hatchlings. Only one out of every 2,500 will survive to the age of sexual maturity.
