Sunday Heard a noise in the mangroves; investigated and found a yellow-crowned night heron. Monday Morning tea on the back porch…cool air, still water, the sound of jumping mullet. Tuesday Met S on the causeway for a picnic lunch. An ultralight with an inflatable boat attached flew over! Thursday M&E came for dinner. Stargazing was so good we all took lawn chairs out in the front yard for an hour. Saturday Went to North Cap to check out NW’s lot. Sure is quiet up there. Sunday Long tennis match with E. Silly woodpeckers were at work on the metal lights. Do birds get headaches? Tuesday Major wildlife day! Saw an armadillo down island, then a juvenile bobcat near the medical clinic on San-Cap Road. Wednesday How do lizards jump the equivalent of 20 stories? Friday Took my first Italian class at BIG Arts. Gennaio, Febbraio, Marzo! Saturday Had a crazy dream that S enrolled me in flying school in Italy. Ha! Sunday Off early to the Everglades for an airboat ride. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe; going sideways that fast feels ridiculous. Monday Good grief—I fell ASLEEP in a rocking chair at the library. Hope no one saw. Thursday Squeezed lemons all night long from K&M’s tree. Didn’t have nearly enough ice trays for all the juice. Lemonade all next summer! Friday Took S to historic village. We spent hours looking at the old newspaper clippings and photos. Saturday L&M in for long weekend. M and I “Scrabbled” till our brains were scrambled. Sunday Talked to the Curtis boys while they were working their beehives on San-Cap Road. I will be a beekeeper in this lifetime. Tuesday Dessert tonight: Jensen’s ice cream with my mango chips from last August’s harvest. Dehydrators are great inventions. Thursday Saw a license plate from Hawaii on a car at Bailey’s. How did it get here? Tuesday Caught Nemo stalking a tree frog. Saved the frog with a little bit of tuna fish. Friday G&R in from Italy. Lots of wine and laughter tonight! Saturday How do you say “Watch out for that sandbar!” in Italian? Monday Early morning beach walk with MB. She’s forgotten more about shells than I’ll ever know! Wednesday Took a day off and sunned and napped on the dock all afternoon. It doesn’t get any better than this.
