September/October 2001
Tuesday I sure like this time of year. Peaceful. Wednesday Havent seen the neighborhood hawk for a while, but a little blue heron seems to be calling us home. Friday Early tennis with E. About 3 oclock, the radar looked clear and S asked me to take a sunset flight. Captiva homes look huge; Blind Pass just keeps changing. Saturday Am thinking it will be an Italian weekend at home. (Summertime, you get creative!) Have chosen a nice Chianti Classico; have the perfect foods in the fridge for a piatto freddo even prosciutto and melon! Sunday Read Italian recipes all morning while listening to Verdi. The afternoon evolved into a long lunch with a bottle of wine, then a lovely nap. A Mastroianni movie tonight? Monday S voted for Sophia instead of Marcello. Who can blame him? Note: Getting low on olives. Wednesday Where do fireflies go in the daytime? And are they still glowing? Friday Incredible stars tonight. I never get over the fact that what we see is really old light. Saturday Day-tripped to Arcadia to shop for antiques with M. Full confession: We sampled three different pies at Wheelers. Sunday S & I had an overdue beach walk this morning; first one in ages. (Our northern friends would be appalled.) Still a few unhatched loggerhead nests. Monday Traffic was slow on San-Cap this afternoon due to a junior gator on the bike path. The fellow coming round the curve on his bike was in for a bit of a surprise! Wednesday Reading list for October: Charlie Sobczaks latest. And a research project: the origins of tango. A few of us had different ideas on this subject. Whats a slow month for if you cant learn something? Friday S disappeared early, then I heard his plane over the house about 9. Ran into the yard and waved. Got a wing-wiggle as a reward. Sunday Spontaneity is a beautiful thing. We hopped in the car on Saturday afternoon and drove to Pompano for dinner at our favorite Irish bar. Monday Coming back across the causeway is always the best part of any trip. Friday Still hot this week, but I know that cooler days are just ahead. Sanibel post office is the first sign of inbound residents, and today there was a little line!
