Island Journal

July/August 2000 Issue

Sunday
Must be Misguided Woodpecker Day: had one on the metal mailbox, then another type on the gutter.

Tuesday
Pirate Playhouse with A&M. Really funny show, nice evening.

Wednesday
Nemo has full-moon fever. Didn’t come home all night last night. Wish I had a Cat-Cam hooked up to the TV.

Friday
Quiet weekend ahead. Boating...? Cards at the pool...? Tennis with S...?

Sunday
Went to North Cap, then on to Cabbage Key for cold beer. Note: Ask Zeke what color his airplane is, so we can identify him in the air.

Monday
Heard the most amazing tarpon story of all time: jumped right into MF’s boat and almost broke his leg.... Fishy or true?

Wednesday
Coconut telegraph says tarpon story is true!

Thursday
G&R coming to Captiva soon; can’t wait for more tales of life in Russia. These islands sure draw some interesting folk.

Friday
Had lunch on the causeway, just for a change. Sea breeze was perfect, sat in the shade, watched a dolphin.

Saturday
Early tennis, then off to the movies with S. I promise to have a nice yard in my next life.

Sunday
Went to our favorite outdoor hangout on Ft. Myers Beach for sunset. Excellent music, lots of locals, really fun. It’s like another world, but close by!

Tuesday
Had a dream that Nemo kept catching giant crabs below our dock. I wish. He wishes more!

Wednesday
Guava trees are really looking good! Might go back to ECHO and get more.

Thursday
The birdbath was emptied overnight.... Maybe thirsty raccoons came by?

Friday
Saw the otters at Jensen’s.

Saturday
M&A asked me to go sailing and it was either that or do housework.... I really struggled for a whole minute before deciding which to do.

Sunday
Tennis lesson from JW. He makes me laugh while he makes me better.

Tuesday
Took an anhinga to CROW this afternoon. Good thing I had a big towel in the car—what a beak!

Thursday
Anhinga doing great!

Saturday
Took my bike in the van and went to the other end of the island to ride. Felt like I was on vacation!

Monday
S and I made sushi at home; shared with Nemo, of course, who was blissed out.

Wednesday
Big whippoorwill night.

Thursday
Long beach walk with Mary. Lots of turtle nests on the beach!

Friday
Our own Sneaky Snake left us another nice snakeskin on the porch. Wish I could see him molting.

Saturday
S is flying us to the Keys for the night. Am all packed: one swimsuit, one pair of shorts, one T-shirt, one toothbrush.
